Description

My name is Nathan Hay and I am 22 years old. I love to teach and play music and I want to share the joy of music with you, regardless of your age or skill level. I am offering private Saxophone, Clarinet, and Flute lessons at my home in Bonnie Doon (near the mall). I have been playing Saxophone for 11 years, Clarinet for 7 years, and Flute for 6 years. All Saxophones can be taught: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone. Many styles can be taught: Jazz, Classical, Funk, Latin, Pop/Rock and others. Lessons are tailored for each student and can be taught for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Regardless of skill and style, the basic fundamentals of each instrument will be taught: technique, tone, and tuning. There may also be a music theory element to each lesson: melody/harmony and rhythm; the amount of theory that will be taught depends on the student's skill level as more advanced students require more theory than beginner students.
Qualifications: I have 2 years of teaching experience at a lesson studio and at my home, 11 years of musical experience/training, and 4 years of professional performance experience in the Jazz scene. I studied Classical music with the Head of Saxophones at the University of Alberta, Dr. William Street, for 3 years. I then studied Jazz music with the Head of Winds at Grant MacEwan University, Ray Baril, for 2 years. I graduated from Grant MacEwan University's 2 year music program with a Diploma of Jazz Performance. I have performed with the Edmonton Jazz Orchestra, Dave Babcock's Jump Orchestra, the New Edmonton Wind Symphonia and others with musicians such as: PJ Perry, Tommy Banks, Gary Guthman, Kent Sangster, Jim Head, Sandro Dominelli, Jerrold Dubyk, Dave Babcock, and many more. Lessons are $40/hour, 1 hour/ week, 1 hour/ 2 weeks, or casual. Lessons times are flexible for most of the week with the exception of Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Lessons can be taught every weekend. I have several instruments available for rental. Not credit card required; just leave a damage deposit. Email is preferable for contact but phone will work too. If you call my home *please leave a message!!* because phone calls are rarely answered. I will respond to all phone messages within one day! References are available upon request, I look forward to teaching you!
